SCIO readings during a wellbeing retreat

Researchers followed 28 people during a nine-day retreat focused on emotional wellbeing. They took SCIO readings at three points and reported changes in the software’s energy-related scores.

How to read it: SCIO recorded readings while people attended the retreat. Everyone took part in the same programme, so the study cannot tell us what caused the changes. One researcher developed the retreat programme.

SCIO readings before and after a wellbeing retreat

A second paper followed 54 people attending a wellbeing retreat. The researchers reported changes in SCIO software readings labelled as brain-wave activity.

How to read it: this paper looked at a retreat, using SCIO to record readings. It did not compare SCIO sessions with another treatment, and the readings were not checked against a separate brain-wave test.

1 September 2026 · Review of nine studies

Biofeedback in sports-injury rehabilitation

Researchers brought together nine studies of biofeedback during recovery from sports injuries. The methods tracked muscle activity, heart rhythm, brain activity or movement. The results were promising for pain and recovery, but further research is needed.

What was used: several forms of feedback during sports-injury recovery. These were different methods from SCIO.

19 May 2026 · Study of breathing-based biofeedback

Can paced breathing support emotional wellbeing?

A study of 88 adults compared two types of slow-breathing training with a group that did neither. After four weeks, both breathing groups reported improvements in psychological symptoms. The study did not find a clear change in resting heart-rate variation.

What was used: breathing exercises with feedback on the time between heartbeats. This study involved adults from the general population and used a different method from SCIO.

2026 · Review of sport research

Athletic performance and mental wellbeing

A review of 24 papers explored how different forms of biofeedback relate to muscle activity, attention and stress in sport. The authors recommend studies with more people and longer follow-up.

What was used: several types of biofeedback for people. The review covers the wider field, rather than SCIO specifically.

21 October 2025 · Combined findings from 41 studies

Biofeedback training and athlete outcomes

Researchers combined findings from 41 studies and reported benefits for sporting performance, mental wellbeing and thinking skills. They recommend further carefully designed studies.

Understanding a horse’s wellbeing and performance

This overview looks at tools that track a horse’s heart, breathing, muscles and other body functions. The authors explain why these readings should be considered alongside the horse’s behaviour and surroundings.

What it covers: ways to understand and monitor a horse’s wellbeing. It provides background on horse care rather than testing SCIO sessions.
